An entertaining story with some surprising twists for those accustomed to the author’s Teuton world. You have a relatively unknown character, Jasmin, becoming prominent, and a Teuton stranger from far off, Gregor, with a determined ambition he does realize is deadly. He and Jasmin accidentally become closely associated and engage in what is essentially a prank. Throughout the ruse, Jasmin becomes aware that Gregor has put himself in extreme danger, and that she has fallen for him. Read and enjoy!

This newest segment in Ms. Carhart's Elemental Bloodlines series does not disappoint! Set concurrently with the previous book, Gift of Darkness, this book explores the life of Jasmin, another young Teuton in Wildertal. To keep out of the clutches of unscrupulous men and selfish priests, she must make a show of being in a relationship. Will that show become all too real?

This book kept me captivated, and I could hardly put it down. Fake boyfriends, Black Priests, death wishes, and looming evil uncles, never mind the Teutons' ubiquitous elemental magic, all make for a fascinating story that will keep you turning pages. You can look forward to both heart-stopping tension and amazingly sweet moments. Don't skip this book!
